A scaffolder's job is to assemble, maintain, and disassemble scaffolding at construction sites. They ensure that construction workers have safe working conditions by:
Designing and planning: Preplanning the scaffold, including weight limitations, fall protection, and supports
Erecting and dismantling: Unloading scaffolding equipment, laying base plates, and erecting scaffolding poles
Inspecting and maintaining: Inspecting the scaffold's technical condition and maintaining it
Collaborating: Collaborating with construction teams to understand project requirements
Following safety regulations: Adhering to regulations established by organizations such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
Training: Training other competent persons, scaffold erectors, and users
Scaffolders may also:
Fit metal scaffolding tubes into gaps in brickwork
Clamp scaffolding to window arches or other structures
Take accurate measurements
Secure poles to each other with couplings
Fix wooden platforms, guard rails, ladders, hoists, and safety nets
Create platforms, such as suspended scaffolding, cantilever drops, and temporary roofs
Work on-site in all weather
