An assistant mechanic, also known as a mechanic's assistant or mechanic helper, helps mechanics maintain and repair vehicles and mechanical equipment. They may also perform scheduled maintenance and repairs.
Responsibilities -
Maintenance: Perform scheduled maintenance tasks like oil changes, lubrication, and tune-ups
Repairs: Repair and replace worn or defective parts, such as engines, transmissions, and steering mechanisms
Diagnostics: Diagnose faults in engines and parts using diagnostic instruments and computers
Tests: Test and adjust mechanical parts to ensure they are performing properly
Inventory: Maintain inventory of replacement parts and equipment
Records: Keep accurate records of work performed
Safety: Ensure compliance with pollution regulations
Cleanliness: Keep the work area clean and return tools to their proper location
Training: Provide on-the-job training to less experienced mechanics
