Job Summary -
The Fire and Safety Engineer is responsible for engineering, implementing, and managing all fire detection, protection, and safety systems across construction projects. This includes evaluating fire risks, designing fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with local and international fire
codes, and coordinating with construction and MEP teams to ensure fire safety integration throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities -
> Fire Engineering and Technical Responsibilities
• Design and review fire detection and fire protection systems (e.g., smoke detectors, heat detectors, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, hydrants, fire hose reels, gas suppression systems).
• Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of fire detection and protection systems at construction sites.
• Coordinate with MEP, civil, and architectural teams to ensure proper integration of fire protection systems in building design and construction.
• Prepare and review fire system layout drawings, hydraulic calculations, and equipment specifications in line with standerd regulations.
• Conduct fire load calculations, fire modeling, and hazard analysis to determine necessary protection measures.
• Ensure accurate fire zoning, placement of fire-rated walls/doors, and smoke control systems in accordance with fire strategy plans.
> Fire Safety Compliance and Site Oversight
• Ensure all construction activities and installations meet Maldives Building Code and Civil Defence fire safety requirements.
• Perform regular inspections, testing, and maintenance verification of fire safety equipment and systems on-site.
• Coordinate with government fire departments and civil defence authorities for fire safety inspections, approvals, and certifications.
• Develop and implement fire safety policies, emergency response procedures, and evacuation plans tailored to each site.
> Training and Incident Management
• Conduct fire safety training, drills, and toolbox talks for engineers, site workers, and subcontractors.
• Lead investigations of fire incidents or near-misses, and implement corrective/preventive measures.
• Maintain detailed documentation of fire safety inspections, maintenance logs, compliance reports, and incident reports.
Qualifications and Experience -
• Bachelor’s Degree in Fire & Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with Fire Protection specialization, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fire protection and safety engineering, preferably within the building construction industry.
• Certifications such as NEBOSH (Fire Safety), CFPS (Certified Fire Protection Specialist),
• Proficient in using AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM for fire protection system design.
• Strong knowledge of international standards
• Hands-on experience with fire alarm panels, suppression systems, and life safety equipment installation and commissioning.
