A Senior HVAC Technician installs, maintains, and repairs complex heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) systems. Key duties include diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, conducting preventative maintenance, training junior technicians, and ensuring compliance with safety and service standards. They use blueprints, diagnose faults using advanced tools, manage inventory, and maintain detailed records of all service and maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities
System Installation & Repair:
Install, inspect, calibrate, diagnose, and repair a wide range of HVACR systems and equipment, including compressors, chillers, boilers, pumps, and associated electrical, electronic, and control systems.
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
Identify and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults in HVAC systems using advanced tools and techniques.
Preventative Maintenance:
Perform regular preventative maintenance to maximize system performance, prevent breakdowns, and extend equipment lifespan.
Technical Leadership:
Provide technical direction and on-the-job training to junior technicians, mentoring them on best practices.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance functions, service calls, and repairs.
Inventory & Procurement:
Manage the inventory of tools and materials and acquire parts needed for repair and maintenance work.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all work adheres to industry standards, safety regulations (like the Occupational Health and Safety Act), and company policies.
Documentation & Reporting:
Document work, analyze key maintenance parameters, and compile reports on system performance and asset utilization.
Customer Interaction:
Discuss system malfunctions with customers, answer their queries, and ensure their satisfaction with services rendered.
Qualifications & Skills
Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair.
Strong knowledge of HVACR systems, including electrical, mechanical, and digital controls.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
Proficiency with diagnostic tools, such as laser alignment equipment.
Good physical condition, including the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work in varied conditions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and customer service.
Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
